Sandustry Flux Emanator Building Guide
The sole botanical refinery — feed Voidbloom from above, grow Fluxite below, harvest with clearance and sorted feeds.
The Flux Emanator is Sandustry’s botanical capstone building — the machine that converts Voidbloom into harvestable Fluxite crystals. You feed Voidbloom onto the emanator from above; Fluxite grows below the footprint and may spread outward if given space. Only one placeable Flux Emanator exists per factory, so placement, feed reliability, and basement clearance define your entire upgrade-currency pipeline. This page covers inputs, growth behavior, harvesting, and logistics integration.
Unlock and single-building limit
The emanator unlocks on the mid-game research branch tied to Fluxite and farming systems (exact node names vary — see Research Priority Tier List). Costs typically mix Gold and possibly Fluxite prerequisites on later tiers.
Critical rule: Sandustry allows only one placeable Flux Emanator. You cannot parallelize with a second building — duplicate feed belts into one tile instead. Plan a permanent site before spending resources on decorative flooring around it.
Inputs: Voidbloom only
Voidbloom forms when Amethelis petals from Flowers mix with RedSand (Voidbloom and Amethelis). Raw Amethelis does not substitute — route petals through a mixer or drop chute first.
Feed methods:
- Conveyor belt drop onto the emanator tile from above.
- Launcher arc into a funnel over the building (Conveyors and Launchers).
- Grabber tools for manual topping during bootstrap (Tools and Weapons Priority).
- Hauler Drones when belts cannot cross hazards (Drones).
Starvation is silent: the emanator idle while Gold research continues tricks players into thinking Fluxite is broken — check voidbloom belt saturation first.
Outputs: Fluxite below and outward
Fluxite crystals spawn under the Flux Emanator tile, extending downward and potentially outward into open space. Growth is not instant inventory — crystals remain until harvested by shooting, tools, or equivalent destruction.
Leave clearance below before placing bedrock, platforms, or catch floors too close. Embedded crystals are harder to collect and block subsequent growth cycles. Common layout:

Shapes, casts, and growth space
Community footage shows Fluxite forming distinct crystal shapes depending on surrounding tiles — tight floors cast shadows that alter spread patterns. Treat the basement as part of the machine:
- Keep a vertical void shaft at least several tiles deep.
- Side clearance reduces crystals merging into walls.
- Optional shaped molds (floor tiles left intentionally open) guide outward spread for easier harvesting.
Exact shape rules may shift in EA patches — retest after Demo Patches updates.
Filters and funnels on the feed
Protect the emanator from wrong materials:
- Filters on the voidbloom belt reject stray Amethelis, Sand, or Slag (Filters). Hotfix 8 added 1-tile filter direction — label pass lanes after updating.
- Funnel chutes narrow drops to the single emanator tile when belts are wide.
- Pre-storage chest buffers voidbloom during RedSand mining bursts.
Never merge voidbloom feed with Wet Sand shaker lines without filtering — contamination wastes both gold proc time and botanical input.
Harvesting automation
Manual shooting works early; scaled factories add:
- Wide catch floors beneath growth zone.
- Tool or weapon lanes firing on timers (where supported).
- Vacuum or collection tools for stray shards (Tools and Weapons Priority).
Harvest regularly. Uncollected Fluxite blocks new growth like slag under Shakers blocks gold.
Drones and belts feeding the wing
Botanical wings often sit away from the main refinery:
- Hauler Drones move Voidbloom from distant mixers.
- Digger Drones supply RedSand while you tend flowers (Flowers and Planters).
- Belt spines link planter rows → voidbloom mixer → emanator funnel.
Power and pathing rules match other drone jobs — bridge Water crossings so drones do not drop RedSand into lakes (Drones).
Ctrl replace when retrofitting (Hotfix 8)
Hotfix 8 added Ctrl hold to replace/override buildings in place — essential when upgrading funnel tiles around the emanator without dismantling the whole platform. See Build Modes and Keyboard Shortcuts.
Ratio and upstream planning
Community benchmarks near ~3 Gold : ~8 Fluxite alongside ~2 sand : 3 water : 4 redsand assume steady voidbloom feed (Material Ratios). The emanator is the last mile — upstream Flower and RedSand planning on How to Get Fluxite matters more than micro-optimizing the building tile.
Demo and Early Access
The Steam demo (app 3490390) includes emanator gameplay in preview builds; EA on 2026-08-13 expands upgrade sinks. Single-player only. Modded maps may relocate or restrict emanator placement (Custom Maps).
Checklist before going AFK
- Voidbloom belt saturated at emanator input.
- Clear shaft below for crystal spread.
- Harvest lane clears old Fluxite.
- Filters reject non-voidbloom materials.
- RedSand mining matches flower output.
The Flux Emanator is not another shaker — it is a single-slot botanical reactor. Feed it clean Voidbloom, give Fluxite room to grow, and harvest like you mean to spend upgrade currency.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Sandustry questions.
How many Flux Emanators can I build?
Only **one** placeable **Flux Emanator** per factory. Consolidate all **Voidbloom** feeds to that tile ([How to Get Fluxite](/guides/how-to-get-fluxite/)).
What do I feed the Flux Emanator?
**Voidbloom** from **Amethelis** + **RedSand** mixing — drop it onto the emanator from above ([Voidbloom and Amethelis](/materials/voidbloom-amethelis/)).
Where does Fluxite appear?
**Fluxite** crystals grow **below** the emanator footprint and may spread outward — leave open space under the building before sealing the floor.
How do I harvest Fluxite?
Shoot or break grown crystals in the clearance zone beneath the **Flux Emanator**. Uncollected crystals block new growth.
Can I replace tiles around the emanator without rebuilding?
Yes — hold **Ctrl** while placing to override/replace buildings (**Hotfix 8**). Details on [Build Modes](/controls/build-modes/) and [Demo Patches](/updates/demo-patches/).
