How to Get Fluxite in Sandustry

Fluxite is Sandustry’s mid-game upgrade currency — distinct from Gold that funds research nodes. You cannot mine Fluxite from Sandsoil or shake it from Wet Sand. The full chain runs through alien botany: Flowers drop Amethelis petals (plus some Gold), petals mix with RedSand to form Voidbloom, and Voidbloom fed to a Flux Emanator grows Fluxite crystals below the emanator tile. Harvest Fluxite by shooting or breaking the crystals, then spend it on higher-tier upgrades alongside gold. This guide walks the entire loop, placement rules, and the scarcity mismatch that trips most factories.

Prerequisites

Before Fluxite matters, stabilize your gold line (How to Get Gold). Fluxite research and building costs assume you already run Shakers, Logistics 1, and at least exploratory RedSand mining. You will also need:

  • Planter Boxes and Soil for flower farming (Flowers and Planters).
  • RedSand supply from deeper biomes (RedSand and Fluxite).
  • Filters or dedicated belts so Amethelis and Voidbloom do not clog gold lanes.
  • Clear floor space under the Flux Emanator — Fluxite grows downward and outward, not inside the building.

Step 1 — Farm Flowers for Amethelis

Flowers are alien plants that drop Amethelis petals when harvested or processed. They also yield incidental Gold, which helps fund the planter research branch. Build Planter Boxes filled with Soil, keep roots wet with Water or Hydro Sponge Grabber tools (above-ground only after Hotfix 8), and protect crops from Fire and Embers that spread through Moss.

Community factories often overproduce Amethelis long before RedSand keeps pace. That overflow is normal — route petals to dedicated storage or a mixing lane rather than letting piles block vents. Step 2 — Mix Amethelis with RedSand → Voidbloom

Voidbloom forms when Amethelis contacts RedSand in the sand simulation — behavior similar to wetting Sand with Water. Mix in a controlled chute, mixer-adjacent drop, or filtered side belt so you see the color change before bulk feeding. RedSand is the bottleneck for most players: it mines slower than surface sand and competes with fluxite demand on the same deep dig sites.

Community planning ratios often cite roughly two Sand : three Water : four RedSand producing about three Gold : eight Fluxite when slag burning stays efficient (Material Ratios). Your live numbers depend on flower throughput, voidbloom loss, and emanator uptime — not spreadsheet perfection on day one.

Step 3 — Place the Flux Emanator (one only)

Sandustry allows only one placeable Flux Emanator per factory. Treat it as a capital structure: pick a permanent tile with open space beneath and room for belts or drones to feed Voidbloom from above.

Feed Voidbloom onto the emanator from the top. The building consumes botanical input and grows Fluxite below the emanator footprint — crystals extend downward and may spread outward depending on clearance. If you floor the basement too aggressively, crystals embed in stone and become harder to harvest.

Leave at least several tiles of vertical clearance before placing bedrock or platforms. Many players build an elevated emanator platform with a void shaft underneath, gold-style catch floors at the bottom, and Filters separating stray Amethelis from crystal drops.

Step 4 — Harvest Fluxite

Fluxite must be collected by damaging the grown crystals — shooting, tools, or equivalent destruction depending on your unlocks. Unlike gold nuggets that fall from Shakers, Fluxite stays attached until harvested. Automate pickup with catch basins, vacuum tools (Tools and Weapons Priority), or manual collection lanes beneath the growth zone.

Do not confuse unharvested crystals with building tiles; X remove targets structures, not grown Fluxite. Harvest regularly so new cycles have space to spawn.

Step 5 — Spend Fluxite on upgrades

Gold buys research nodes on the tech tree; Fluxite gates higher-tier upgrades previewed for EA — often parallel to gold costs on advanced buildings, tools, or depth systems. Keep separate chests so spending gold for Logistics 1 does not accidentally drain Fluxite needed for emanator-adjacent upgrades.

When Fluxite rises but gold stalls, fix Shakers first. When gold rises but Fluxite stalls, trace backward: flowers → Amethelis → RedSand → Voidbloom → emanator feed → harvest clearance.

Balancing Redsand scarcity vs Amethelis overflow

The classic mid-game pain is petal surplus and RedSand shortage. Fixes:

  • Expand redsand mining before adding planter rows (Dig Deeper).
  • Throttle flowers by reducing planter count or storage pull — unused Amethelis is cheaper than voidbloom-starved emanator downtime.
  • Filter splits send RedSand to voidbloom mixers and return surface Sand to the gold wetting pool (Filters).
  • Drones haul RedSand from distant veins when belts cannot reach (Drones).

Emanator layout patterns

Elevated feed platform: Voidbloom belt → emanator on platform → open shaft below → Fluxite catch floor.

Side-fed funnel: Filters clean voidbloom into a narrow drop chute on the emanator tile; reject lane returns excess Amethelis to storage (Voidbloom and Amethelis).

Drone-fed botanical wing: Hauler Drones move voidbloom when belts cross water or lava hazards.

Test voidbloom feed rate with a partial stack before connecting full flower output — emanator starvation is silent until upgrade purchases fail.
